Living the ‘One Another’ Life
Being a “Good Christian” or “Living a Christian”, those things are simple alone. Just you, God and a quiet place, it’s easy right? When other people enter the room, that’s when you can either shine your light or blend into the crowd. In the confines of our safe place, we’re strong, unwavering Christians.
Maybe you’ve prayed something like this: “Heavenly Father, today I have been blessed, I haven’t lost my temper or been grumpy, nasty or selfish. In a few minutes, I’m going to get out of bed, and from then on, I’m going to need a lot of help and a lot of Your grace!”
Maybe that seems a little odd or funny to you, but it’s true. Once we get up each morning and face life, interact with others, we need His grace to follow us and support us in walking in His word.
Somewhere around 50 times in the New Testament Jesus and the apostles tells us to feel, say or do something for ‘One Another‘. Repeatedly, more than any other command, surrounds today’s passage: “Love One Another” – John 13:34. Paul wrote in Colossians 3:14 the this concept “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.“
In today’s society, we have our own “One Another’s“; compete with one another, critique one another, cancel one another. None of these are biblical, and subverts the will of the Father, Jesus Christ. Jesus calls on all Christians to build up our lives, our communities, our relationships on faithful, sacrificial, selfless and convenantal love, His Love.
Today, take the time to meditate on this simple command of Christ, tell someone outside your circle that you love them. Make your stage something where Christ can and is the focus!
